As a business development manager, you’ll identify new business opportunities to generate revenue, improve profitability and help the business grow. Your work will involve strategic planning and positioning in the appropriate markets, or enhancing the operation of the business, position or reputation in some way. You will need a variety of hard and soft skills: communication, organizational, time-management, and technical and computer skills, as well as drive and self-motivation.
Contacting potential clients to establish rapport and arrange meetings
Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives
Researching organizations and individuals to find new opportunities
Increasing the value of current customers while attracting new ones
Finding and developing new markets and improving sales
Meeting with customers/clients face to face, through online business video/audio calls or over the phone
Researching and identifying new business opportunities including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers partnerships, products and services – or new ways of reaching existing markets
Creative thinking
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field
Strong communication skills and IT fluency
Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task
Comfortable using a computer for various tasks
IT skills, including the use of spreadsheets
